G.I. Joe gets a franchise facelift with Bruce Willis & Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson added! Plus! Exclusive Interviews.
Sorry Marlan Wayans, but this is not your G.I. Joe anymore. We've moved from cartoony action into the realm of big guns shooting big bullets. This is thanks to the success of movies like Transformers with storylines that have a "possible real earth" anchor when it comes to soldiers and weapons. Someone has finally decided that the audience that needs attention is the 30ish fan of the original cartoon because kids will come anyways and toys will most definitely be sold!
Dwayne Johnson gets introduced as our main character, Roadblock, and he couldn't be happier about it. Labeled "Franchise Viagra" by director John Chu while on stage at this year’s Cinemacon, Dwayne is only too happy to step in and add his muscle to the box office. Though this isn't a weight he carries alone with the addition of action veteran Bruce Willis who plays Joe Colton, the man the "Joes" were named for.
This franchise looks like it wants a trifecta bad, and why shouldn't it! The fans of new and old paid for the first release and this new cast makes it easier for more wallets to open up. And to prove they are really planning the next wave already, we are releasing some rumblings about a possible Serpentor story line in the third installment, which could be quite fun. Though what we really want is the character Shipwreck and his wise-cracking parrot!
